ALD Sound Systems is proud to be the Santa Rosa dealer for the GoldenEar line of loudspeakers. GoldenEar is the brain child of industry veteran Sandy Gross. His previous companies include Polk Audio and Definitive Technologies.
The audio press has raved about all models in the GoldenEar line, including the floorstanding Triton Reference, Triton Five and the SuperSub Series of subwoofers. Of the eight GoldenEar loudspeakers that were reviewed by “The Absolute Sound,” ALL of them have received the Editors’ Choice Award for 2019. The Triton Reference speakers are in “Stereophile’s” Class A full-range speaker category.

The Triton Five is a larger version of the Award Winning Triton Seven, with greater dynamic range and even deeper bass extension, plus important refinements carried over from the Triton One development program. As with all of our Triton Towers, the Triton Five’s high-resolution sonic performance makes it ideal for use in two channel systems of the highest quality, as well as complete multi-channel surround music and home theater systems.

The Triton Reference is an evolution of everything that GoldenEar has achieved with the Tritons, but taken to a stunning new level of sonic performance and sophisticated visual design. All the components in the Reference – the active sub-bass drivers, upper-bass/midrange drivers, and high-velocity folded ribbon tweeter – are new, and have been specifically developed for use in the Reference. The fully balanced crossover is, of course, specially engineered for the Reference, and the powerful subwoofer amplifier and 56-bit DSP control unit are an evolution of those used in the Tritons and our SuperSubs.
The new 6˝ upper/bass/midrange drivers are cast-basket units that incorporate a low-mass voice coil and a newly developed cone with unique low-mass bonding to the butyl rubber surround for improved transient response. In addition, they have a large, newly designed, specially engineered “Focused Field™” magnet structure, which better directs the magnet flux to the voicecoil gap. The newly engineered 6˝x10˝ active low-frequency drivers for the built-in powered subwoofers have 40% more surface area than the active drivers used in the Tritons, along with a larger diameter voicecoil and an even more massive magnet structure which also utilizes our Focused Field technology. The new Reference High-Velocity Folded-Ribbon tweeter incorporates 50% more rare-earth neodymium magnet material than do our non-Reference HVFR tweeters, for improved transient response and higher efficiency. The four inertially balanced 10.5˝x 9.5˝ side-mounted (two on each side), planar, infrasonic radiators are similar to those used in the SuperSub X, but have been retooled to allow for even greater excursion.

GoldenEar’s best subwoofers, the new SuperSub™ Series models are ultra-high-performance yet amazingly compact subwoofers that incorporate many recently developed unique and advanced technologies and components. The goal was to create beautifully styled, finely finished, reasonably sized subwoofers that could generate very low-frequency pressure waves of extremely high amplitude, while delivering accurate and precise low-frequency performance that is both highly impactful and extremely musical.
In order to achieve this, the SuperSubs, GoldenEar’s best subwoofer series, incorporate a unique, patented 360 degree dual-plane inertially-balanced driver and sub-bass radiator topology, combined with a very advanced electronics package. With two active drivers separated horizontally in space, as well as two passive radiators separated vertically, the driver-to-room coupling is distributed much more smoothly, for in-room bass performance that can’t typically be achieved with a single subwoofer.
